Abraham Biggs snr called for tougher regulation of internet sites after his 19-year-old son took an overdose of anti-depressant pills in his bedroom and then filmed himself on a webcam as he lay dying.
Police found Abraham Biggs Jr on Wednesday at his home in Broward County, Florida, some 12 hours after he first announced on a bodybuilders' website that he had taken the pills and redirected viewers to another site showing his webcam footage.
What the @!$%# is wrong with people!
I sympathize with the father but calling for regulations is a waste
because this is no different then if his son had climb on a ledge of a building or climb on the rail of a bridge and a crowd had gather
and of course some in the crowd will yell jump jump
the only thing I can see that can be done and of course this is across the board you would have to make it a crime not to report a crime if you see one
because what would have happen if he had candy instead of pills and the police where called does he go to jail? do the people reporting it go to jail for filing a false report
and its one thing to see someone on a ledge of a building but on a web-cam the chance of a prank or joke is much higher and I mean way high
Dennis & Head-Negro,
I agree with both of you. These type acts should not be for others to speculation on while watching... nor should individuals edge pranksters on, especially in his case. If the individual is taking anti-depressant medication it is for a reason, which should have signaled a warning to friends it was highly probable it wasn't a prank and more of a reason not to think the friend who ultimately committed suicide was kidding. or wait to see whether or not he was. Even if regulations were put into place, can authorities prove people were actually in the company of individuals who commit suicide even if in fact they were?
Trog, what the f*** is wrong with people is a millionaire dollar question many of us would love to find answers to.... I believe watching stuff like this sends adrenaline up some people's spine. The world is full of quacks....
you use the word friend I don't know of anybody who would have a real friend just sit and watch you commit suicide, without trying to get you help or at least call someone.
I don't know if these people know him like say town friends as oppose to Internet friends
which would explain why once the police were called it took them awhile to track him down to his address because Internet friends may not know, unless you post it on your profile or tell them.
then it might be just your state our country when it comes to the net...
it seems that some try to talk him out of it and whether or not they were the ones who did try to get in contact with the someone is not said
I just think the anger at the Internet and web streaming is misdirected
and I also agree that a lot of people have some serious issues as far as entertainment goes
The first statement in your response is true and I should have worded mines differently and placed so-called in front of "friends", because true friends don't sit around and wait to see if friends (who they know have mental issues and take medication for it) will actually kill themselves. The person who committed suicide have an obvious excuse and individuals who looked on do not have any legitimate ones...assumptions the person was playing is not a valid one. Like you wrote some "people have some serious issues as far as entertainment goes." The world is full of these types.
I think it would have been hard to tell what exactly he was taking, whether it was pills or candy, one would never know. Also, some people are excellent actors/actrasses and it is hard to tell if their serious or not. The people that thought this was amusing have some mental issues to deal with. I think there needs to be stricter controls on what is displayed over the internet and to whom it is displayed. Somebody's child could have seen the man committing suicide and thinking it is alright to do it. What is the world coming to??
How do you put stricter controls on web cams? It's one thing to try and monitor something like child porn, it's another monitoring the world waiting for someone to have some sort of mental breakdown.
I think there needs to be stricter controls on what is displayed over the internet and to whom it is displayed
I believe filters are in place on most computers under parental control just go to your Internet options and click on the tab "content"
and also most ISP offer filters for homes with children and programs you can buy or get for free for extra protection
because the chance of that happening is slim to none
